“Out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34). This reminds us to see the heart of the close.
How do we store up good things in our heart? The writer of the Proverbs urges; “Store
up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart
to understanding…For wisdom will enter your heart.” (2:1-2, 10) It really
matters how one trains his/her heart.
If one stores God’s word in
him/her, it certainly becomes his/her life-style. We would be shaped in the
standard of the text. Someone writes, ‘Every word we speak either be a brick to
build or bulldozer to destroy.” The word is much heavier than our actions. Whatever
is stored up in our heart, will sooner or later be expressed by our words.
Therefore, we need to fill our heart with good things so that we would see a noble
impact in others later. Jeremiah says that the most cunning heart- its’ beyond
help. Who can figure it out? (Jeremiah 17: 9) The Lord alone can probe the heart and discern the
motives (10). We live in a consumer-oriented society where people look at the
outside rather than the inside. People do not really bother how things go in
the heart. Pleasure and fame overtakes
the heart. The scripture reminds us in
Proverbs 4:23 as “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the
wellspring of life.” If you want to gain the fullness of life, let us guard our
heart from the desire of the world.
