Love Comes
Softly is a television movie, based on a series of books by Janette Oke. In 2011, I had an opportunity to watch a first
DVD of Love Comes Softly. I found it very inspiring and worth watching
then. I really wanted to watch all those DVDs but did not happen to get it.
The series of
those movies become more real when you enter into the married live. There are a lot
to learn from each other, grow in relationship with Christ and also with
people. Things changes and so are with the times and responsibilities. But God's
unfailing love remains the same! I want to thank Phil and Jenny Davis for
ordering the series on my request.
Last week, I
began to watch DVD-1 together with Thiru. The plot
begins with Marty (Katherine Heigl) and Aaron (Oliver Macready) moved out to the west. Aaron
dies in a horse riding accident shortly after their marriage. Marty; desperate
and down, expecting her late husband's baby and left nowhere to go, is in need
of a place to stay through the winter. In meantime she expects an arrangement offered
by widower Clark Davis (Dale Midkiff) who offers her a place to stay in the
winter and provide a fare for the wagon train to go to the east. In exchange,
Marty agrees to get marry with Clark, and give a maternal influence to his
daughter Missie. However the two don't live together rather stay in a separate quarter.
Marty and Missie find it difficult to adjust with each other. Marty discovers
something new in Clark's life. There are lots to tell to you about the DVD-1.
But my mind goes to an incident when the barn was destroyed in fire. Clark
keeps talking about God's faithfulness and depends on God for better tomorrow
and says to Marty, "Just keep praying for answers." Marty responds to
Clark, "How did you know he answers your prayers? Did you pray for this?
(Barn to be fired), did you pray to have Ellen (Missie's mother who passed away)
taken away from you? Did you pray that little girl Missie would grow up never
knowing her real mother? I just don't understand why the god that you pray to
would let such unthinkable things happen to decent people." Clark takes Marty to
another side of the story and says how God had been covering his entire life
with his love and care. The truth of God's love is not that he allows bad
things to happen. It's his promise that he'll be there with us when they do.
I don't say that these are the only good movies. However,
these would give you a perspective to ponder on. For those who find it difficult
to get an accent, you will have an English subtitle as well.
