When a person is overwhelmed with joy, he tussles to
get asleep. Well, this happened to me as well. I looked at my watch and it was
still not a right time to get up from the bed. It was just 2am. I tried to get sleep but couldn’t. I woke
up and turned pages to Psalm 146.
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! While I
live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God while I have my
being…
Kunal, Bimala and her husband Chakra jee |
Something amazing happened yesterday. In fact I had not
even anticipated this. I usually do not play with the social media as such. However I do scan my facebook-wall once in a day
but do not hang on there for a long unlike in previous I was bit addicted to it. It took
quite a bit of self-disciplinary efforts to change the priority.
Nevertheless, my outlook over the social media has
been changed a bit today. It did an
amazing thing to me! God provides provisions to use it in a right way, and not
to spoil it. Isn’t it amazing? Connecting people together after almost a
two decade! Uniting the scattered!
I talked one of my friends yesterday, i.e. Bimala
Kunwar! While I was studying in Gola
(Bardia), Bimala came to join the school little later in 2049 BS. Probably, she was transferred to my school
while I was in the 6th standard. We became close friends since then.
I was bit selfish anyway. That could be the reason I found friends like
Bimala and couple of others. Well, this is not to pamper her but she was a genuine,
honest in her words, and a discipline lady. We gained trust and favor from our teachers as we tried to keep the standard. Perhaps it is too much! Bimala can
correct me here. Either of us used to
come first or second in the class test. She was brilliant in her
academics and extra-curricular activities. We spent our days in the same school for almost
4 years, and then we graduated from there in 2053 BS (AD1996). After that we
scattered here and there for the further study. I think I met her once in
Nepalgunj college in 1997. It did not
happen to see her anymore after that. I had to move to India due to the civil
war in Nepal in 1999. After a decade, I heard that she got married and left for
India. I tried to find her address and contact her but could not find it. How
life changed over the years and we do not even realize. There were days when we used to play ‘khoppi’, and eat kakra from a makai Bari (maize
field). I know those days will not return back but the memories remain
strong even today.
It is almost two decade now I am
connected to her through the facebook. We
talked to each other through the facebook messenger yesterday. We were just
wondering if we can put our long talks in a nutshell. We started
from those school lives, talking about friends, teachers, homework, exams and
all the memories that we could collect. I almost cried talking to my best friend. I still remember her giving me a counsel when I was sad... She was like my elder sister and a friend and more than this I call her my best friend. Now, she has got a loving family
with a handsome son, Kunal who is studying at 10th standard in
Mumbai, and husband, Chakra jee works in a company. They have been living in Mumbai
after the marriage. She says that they probably will not return to Nepal
anymore as they are almost settled in India, and more acquainted with Indian
language and culture. Thank you Facebook! I think you are not that much bad as
I had assumed J I wish I could
have all those events recorded in my diary.
