Tharu Community in Nepal

Tharu community is considered as the oldest group of people who mostly live nearby heavy forest. They are hardworking people who are traditional peasant farmers.  Last week, I took some break and went to spend some time in the Bardia National Park where I could visit a museum center. I think you would love to see some of the snaps.

Tharu people are divided into several sub groups. I however am not going to give details here but want to highlight a brief about the community. Religiously speaking, they have their own gods and follow a Bharra (shaman). Their religion is animist. Besides the Bharra, who treats their diseases, the village headman, bhalamansa, and the Desi-Mahajan - an Indian moneylender, are important people within the village. Christianity has been flourished among this community since 1990 when Democratic government came into Nepal.  Most of the Christians are found to be in Kanchanpur, West Nepal. However they have scattered in Mid-west region too. They use the Devanagiri script but do have different dialect. We do not have any standard graphs of Christian people among Tharu community.  However, it is one of the undeniable facts that Christianity has been rapidly increasing among this community. Assembly of God Nepal has been doing a great work in Mid-West and Far-West region.

As you look onto the pictures, would you please pray for this community that God would transform the hearts of the people .
