UBS mom and a true friend: mam Ruth Fox

One of the most essential things that people leave behind is LEGACY. You will never know the contribution of others until they move away from that place. It sounds too abstract, isn’t it? Sometime such an abstract seems to be so tangible that we could feel deep within the heart. Your involvement with people matters a lot and it can be counted only in your absence. I am just pouring it out the dryness of my heart through the blog. I landed in UBS and felt lonely today. Indeed it is hard and heavy... seems that my heart was missing something! Yea! It was just the presence of Mam Ruth Fox. Had she been here, she could have called me up....:(  Mam Fox had been a heart-bit for hundreds of tiny kids and women in the Budhbar Peth, including UBS community.

I was voluntarily involved with the team since last year. In fact, it was a part of the week end ministry from the Practical Department of UBS. We as a team never took it as an assigned task only; rather it turned to be an opportunity for us. Another reason that really dragged me towards this ministry is due to the Nepalese women who have come all the way from Nepal, and have been working in the brothels. I thought, probably that would open the door for me, to get in touch with their realities. In fact, our Nepalese women (including men) hesitated to have a talk with us, knowing a fact that I am from Nepal.

What to be told for Mam Ruth? She was Mom for many of us. I remember the days when we did not find good taste in the dining hall; we never hesitated to bang her doors or ring on her handy, asking the food or drinks. We even did not miss World Cup 2010 in last year; dining and drinking in her tiny apartment (Christian drinks only...). We could not miss Manchester vs Arsenal. We did not have to check timing, while driving from Pune to Mumbai. She used to make us to laugh as if she was the stockroom of the LAUGH.

She even used take us out for the dinner. Terrace! UBS was full of GOC, which was sometime more than Ten Commandments. Nevertheless it was meant for good only. However, I suppose Grace and Love conquered all. It was proved through Mam Ruth Fox’s open hospitality which helped us to realize how important it is to give an access to young people, and letting them to draw the line-code of life, and see what is good and bad, rather than demarcating the line-code of life for others. Well, things can be done in other way around!

On 5th December, We had a dinner together with Mam Fox. What to be done after the dinner? Dance? No no baba, no no! This cannot happen from Janak! Majority of us voted for the driving in the MG Road. Well, we headed for driving, and roaming around the MG road. Benny, Naveen, Banker and I were packed in a Car, and started a research on the Poultry Farming. That was an amazing research cum driving that I have ever had! In fact Benny did the word exegesis, and ended up with a conclusion that “UBS is the Poultry Farm.” Poor Naveen:( It did not turn to MG road as Naveen expected!

That was the last entertainment which we had with Mam Fox. Now, she is  no more in UBS, left for US forever. We would not get any more chances to dine in the terrace with her! We may not get to talk to her as we often used to have in pentagon. There won’t be any more Manchester vs Arsenal in her apartment! We won’t be able to See UNO in the bus, shouting and jumping together. We won’t be able to taste home-made Jam and cake in UBS. There won’t be anyone who would come at mid night to our hostel when someone used be seriously ill in the hostels. Mam! You don’t know how important you are in our life. You left a great legacy behind, more than anyone else did...

You were asking me few days back that how you became an amazing! Now, you tell me what would I say other than this! I can still say that you are amazing UBS mom. Wherever you go, you would have an especial place in our hearts! We love you mam!
