I had NO LUCK

I had never thought that our tour/picnic would be so much successful. I always used to disagree with my teammates whenever they purpose for special programs, having big amount of budget. But I realized that ministry is not only the public preaching or seminar but also to spend the time, being with the people and hear their stories. This is what happened today in Picnic. I thought of writing this small report and letting you all to know about UBS-Nepali Fellowship. This is also a prayer request and asking you all to be with us in glorifying God together. UBS Nepali fellowship is not a big or established fellowship but we, few students who are burdened for Nepali people, meet together and pray for them. My intention here is not give any sort of structural data of Nepali migrants’ people but to let you know how the people are living here without the gospel. Working here in India is not the big deal for us as we all know that we need to work hard to live.

We left early in the morning from our seminary for picnic. It was quite hard to get up 4am to cook and make everything ready for the day. Thank God for Brother Thapa and Didee Rachel. They did excellent job in cooking and even managing the bus for our traveling. We thought of heading for Munsi Dyam. But it was so difficult to find the place even after 3 hours of journey. Some how we found the place but it was not exactly Munsi Dyam but near by Dyam. It looked like the bank of Karnali River in Nepal. We were eleven who believed in Christ but we had 18 young people who had not known Christ yet. some of them had not even heard about Christ. Most of them were from Lumbhini and some of them were from Kailai, Jhapa, Nuwakot and Kavre. According to our plan, we divided the group in three and had a time of introduction and sharing. Brother R.k., Brother David and myself took initiative in group discussion. Let me tell you about Sagar. He is 21 years old. He left schooling while he was in class 5 and headed for job in India. He worked in New Delhi for couple of year and as his relatives were working Pune, he came to Pune. I asked that why did he come to India. “I had to look after my family. And there was no option for earning. So, I had to come to India. I had no luck for education.” He replied with very gloomy face. Let me share one more story about Kiran who says himself from Jhapa. This 22 years young guy came to India when he was not even jumped into teen age. Without getting any parental caring, he grew up among friends and relatives and became so harsh and dejected. After hearing from them, I told them that there is Jesus who listens our cry and sees our pains and difficulties. No matter what background and color we may belong, from what caste and group we may come but still He loves us and wants us to be close to Him. We could not share much as they were totally new for us and it is not easy for them to digest lot. Soon after the sharing, we went for lunch. We had to serve the food as we invited them but they did not allow us to serve rather they asked us to eat first. They found little bit open and felt easy to mingle with us. Ashish sang a very beautiful Christian song (Jiwan chhain kehi Pani Chain…) and made all guys to dance even though they didn’t take words seriously. Brother Thapa shared that who we are and what we are doing here in Pune.

Friend! We find so busy in seminary’s schedules and hardly we get time in week ends. Some time we feel so discouraged because of the work pressures and not being able to available for Lord’s work. But we assure ourselves that we are here to be trained for His vineyard. There is a time for everything (Proverbs). Our staying in Seminary may not only to gather head knowledge but to equip ourselves in such a way that we may understand the peoples’ struggles/pains and hunger of their soul. We always pray that Lord! Remind us the call that we had before.

Friends! People want us to hear from us. They want to share their problems and stories. Christianity needs to hear lot than to speak. People had struggles and pains. They are looking for someone with whom they can share their burdens, whom they can trust. But many times, we take granted that Christians need to preach and should not escape the opportunities whenever we find bunch of people. I think our world-views need to be broadened.

Prayer request

  • Pray for these people who came for Picnic. May God speak to them personally.
  • Pray for the people who were in touch before and now dispersed in city. May God help them to come to know Christ where ever they are.
  • Pray for Pr. Daniel Subba who works among Nepali people here in Sahakar nagar in Pune.
  • Pray for Mr. D.B. Thapa who is going to be graduate from UBS this year.
  • Pray for bible study in NIBM.

God bless you!

Janak
